What did I forget? Migration, memory and the moving image

Mairéad McClean works across film, video, sound and photography and will talk about her own experience of migration through her film work, and songs, prose and poetry related to the act of remembering.

Originally from Beragh outside Omagh and now based in Bath, Mairéad McClean uses material from a diverse range of sources in her work. Found footage, historical and family archives, filmed performances and televisual media, appear in many of her award-winning single screen films and multi-media installations produced over the past 25 years.

In 2011, she was commissioned by National Museums NI, producing a film entitled Moving Lives telling the stories of people who had migrated to and from Ireland.

Mairéad investigates how historical events differ from those remembered through actual experience and will talk about her own migration experience.

This event, part of the Twentieth Literature of Irish Exile Autumn School, will take place in the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies at the Ulster American Folk Park. Admission is £20 or £15 for concessions (students, unwaged and senior citizens), and will include the talk, walk and discussion, as well as lunch, and morning and afternoon tea and coffee
