Library of historic and contemporary migration

The Research Library is the central focus of the Centre for Migration Studies. It currently houses a specialist collection of over 18,000 volumes, approximately 50 periodical titles, a selection of maps and audio-visual material.  Additionally, the Irish Emigration Database offers a collection of primary source documents relating to Irish-American emigration, which is keyword searchable on computer.

The collection is reference only and is on open access. Study tables, a microfilm/fiche reader, a printer, a photocopier and four computers give access to the Irish Emigration Database. Internet and email facilities are also available.

Our team of librarians are highly knowledgeable and will assist you in your search. Whether you are researching a particular theme for an academic project, or have a personal migration story you wish to explore, our staff are on hand to assist. Please remember our Centre is not a genealogy resource, and we will direct you to the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland for detailed family searches.
